Senior members of the Lady Lion volleyball team were recognized last night prior to Vernon's last match of the season. Seniors playing their final match for the Lady Lions were: McKenzie Belcher, Amya Chavira; Cirstin Ivy, Marli Limon, Rilynn Mason, and Kirrah Taylor.


Students in Mrs. Allison Stanley's chemistry class worked on a project this morning that involved using a bunsen burner.







For each game, Lion coaches select Game Changers who receive a chain award that they get to keep for the week. Receiving Game Changer chains for Vernon's victory over Iowa Park were: Kale Sherrill, Most Explosive; Julius Dawkins, Big Stick; and Jamari Chance, Top Blocker.


UPDATE!!The Vernon Lady Lions basketball program is holding a Parent/Coaches Meeting Thursday, at 5:30 p.m., at D.O. Fulton Gym. This meeting is for parents/guardians of all high school Lady Lion basketball players. The Lady Lions will face Wichita Falls High in a scrimmage at home Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., and will scrimmage Rider in Wichita Falls on Tuesday. The Lady Lions open the 2023-24 season in Burkburnett on Saturday, Nov. 4.


The Roarin' Lion Band Boosters is asking for volunteers to work in football game concession stands.


The names of all VHS students who had perfect attendance, no tardies and no conduct reprimands for the last 3 weeks were put into a drawing for a free Kona Ice. Today's winners were (front row, from left) Damian Tapia, Taysean Valderrama, Zaley Horn and Adrian Guerrero; (back row) Christopher Calvillo, Presley Lehman, Tri Wit and Gavin Pierce. The VMS & VHS PTO group provided the free Kona Ice treat.


Last week, students in Brett White's economic class heard a presentation from Sarah Gray and Reagan White, who are with the Waggoner National Bank, on checking accounts and on how to write a check. Thank you to Sarah and Reagan for presenting the lesson to our students.




Receiving Texas Farm Bureau MVP footballs for their performance in the Lions' 48-27 victory over Iowa Park last Friday night were: Jamari Chance, Special Teams MVP; Adrian Felton, Defensive MVP; and Kale Sherrill, Offensive MVP. Brittany Kubicek, an agent with the local Texas Farm Bureau Agency operated by Toby Kitchens, presented the football to the players.



Our Lady Lions wrap up their volleyball season tonight against Henrietta. JV starts at 5 p.m., with the varsity to begin at 6 p.m. It is also Senior Recognition Night, as Lady Lion seniors and their parents will be recognized..


14 of our VHS tennis players made the District 6-4A All-District team. Elide Corona was named Newcomer of the Year and made the 1st Team for Girls Singles and Girls Doubles. Other girls making the 1st Team were: Alyssa Andara, Singles and Doubles; Courtney Saylor, Doubles; and Kaylee Delaune, Doubles. Boys making the 1st Team were: Matthew Goodrum, Singles and Doubles; Kell Castleberry, Singles; Jonathan Medina, Singles; and Atticus Mixson, Doubles.
Girls making the 2nd Team included: Madie Dobbins, Singles; and Karlee Morrison, Mixed Doubles. Boys making the 2nd Team included: Christopher Martinez, Singles and Doubles; Gavin Pierce, Singles and Doubles; Atticus Mixson, Singles; Kell Castleberry, Doubles; Cross Durham, Doubles; and Nevan Schur, Mixed Doubles.

We would love to have the home stands packed Friday night when our Lions tangle with the Jim Ned Indians in a HUGE district showdown. It is also Senior Recognition Night for members of the cheerleader squad, band and football team.


Our Lions defeated the Iowa Park Hawks 48-27 Friday night in a big District 3-3A, Division 1 battle. Selected as Players of the Game were: Offensive MVP -- Kale Sherrill; Defensive MVP -- Adrian Felton; Special Teams MVP -- Jamari Chance; Big Stick -- Julius Dawkins; Hall Hawk -- Tru Gipson; Lion Heart Award -- Johnny Pruitt; Boss Hog -- Ismail Urista; and Best Blocker -- Jamari Chance. Congratulations to these young men and all of our Lions!! Job Well Done! Your photo will be displayed on the digital sign at VHS and the Administrative Center this week.

Today in Ms. Kia Dixon's Algebra class students did a black light scavenger hunt as a way to study direct variation.
