The UIL Academic Contest for elementary students was held last December, and today VES honored the 5th grade students who participated in the event. Parents of the students were invited to the event, as the students received their UIL t-shirt and their medal/ribbon if they placed in their event. Some of our students and teachers/staff looked a little different when they came to school today compared to how they looked when they left Thursday. To celebrate the 100th day of school, some of them came dressed as senior citizens. They all did a great job.

Tune in tonight to the Channel 6 10 p.m. newscast and catch VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward's interview with KAUZ journalist Rowan Hardman. The story focuses on VISD's partnership with Child Care Partners for the new daycare center that will be located in the Central Elementary building.


This morning Vernon Mayor Pam Goslin spoke to our 2nd and 3rd grade students and explained what her duties were as mayor, and talked a little about how city government works.






Just a quick reminder that Friday is our first early-release Friday of the Spring Semester.


If you have a child, grandchild, niece or nephew, or if you just want to make a difference in a youngster's life, join our Dudes On Duty program at McCord Elementary and Vernon Elementary. The first step is filling out the volunteer application. Youngsters need to see positive male role models!! Volunteering just 30 to 40 minutes a week can make a difference!


Last week 8 third graders were selected for the BOB (Best of the Best) Club and were treated to a special lunch. Each third grade teacher selected a student. Receiving the honors last week were: Aizlee McCoy, Kree Kajs, Isaac Hollis, Mollee Colbert, Khloe Montoya, Leliana Williams, Day Taw and Rance Fisher. Congratulations!! Great job students! Keep up the good work!!

This facility will be located in a portion of the Central Elementary School building. The facility hopes to be open by late spring. With area school districts closing due to low attendance, we want our parents and community to know that while Vernon ISD has seen an uptick in absences due to the illnesses that are circulating, our attendance rate has not dropped to the level of closing school.
