Today is Paraprofessional Appreciation Day! We have paraprofessionals at each campus who help our students and our teachers with hundreds of things, and sometimes it may seem like that help goes unnoticed. But, we notice and appreciate all of you each and every day! Our "paras" play a role in Vernon ISD's success!

Tuesday was School Assistant Principals Day and we apologize for being a day late in recognizing our AMAZING assistant principals. Sometimes the duties and responsibilities of being an assistant principal aren't the easiest to handle, but Vernon ISD has assistant principals who handle everything in a professional and calm manner, and who are always focused on what is best for their students. Thank you for all you do at your campus and throughout the district!

The Vernon Rotary Club recently held a local 4-Way Speech Contest, with the contest winner advancing to the Rotary Club Regional Speech Competition. Taking first place in the local speech contest was Aung Men, who received a $150 cash prize. Finishing second was Zachery Sanchez who received a $100 cash prize, and third went to Logan Wehrwein who received a $50 cash prize. The students gave a speech on What the Four-Way Test Means to Me. The four-way test involves these questions: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? VHS teacher Dustin Swatzell helped the Vernon Rotary Club organize the event.

Last week, Vernon High School Gifted & Talented students, along with students in Coach Nathanael Stinson's honors Geography class traveled to Canyon for a tour of West Texas A&M University and a visit to the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum. The students were given an in-depth look at life as a typical college student and learned of the opportunities available to WT students. They also enjoyed touring the largest museum in Texas and in discovering what early life on the Plains looked like.

CONGRATULATIONS!! To freshman Claire Mayo for winning the Girls Individual Medalist competition at the District 7-3A Golf Tournament. Claire will be advancing to the 3A Region 1 Golf Tournament along with teammate Cirsten Ivy. Claire, Cirsten and teammates Marli Limon and Jaylie Freeman finished third in the team competition. However in golf, only the top 2 teams advance to regionals. Cirsten is advancing to regionals due to some of the girls who finished ahead of her in the medalist standings already qualifying with their teams.
