
Our 2nd grade students visited The Waggoner National Bank this morning and performed several of the songs from their Christmas Program they presented Tuesday evening at the Wilbarger Auditorium.











Our 3rd grade students had a blast getting to sing in the "snow" during a portion of their Christmas Program last night at the Wilbarger Auditorium. After their performance, the 2nd grade students returned to the stage as the two grades combined for a couple of songs to wrap up their annual Christmas Program.











Our 2nd grade students had fun and did a great job during their performance at our 2nd & 3rd Grade Christmas Program, which was held Tuesday evening at the Wilbarger Auditorium. After the 3rd grade portion of the program, the 2nd graders returned to the stage and joined the 3rd graders for a couple of songs to close out the show.

Our 4th & 5th Grade Christmas Program was held last night. The student performed with their grade, and then combined to close out the night. All of the students were great. Here are scenes from the 5th grade performance. Their selections included "Joy to the World", "Auld Lang Syne", and "I Really Need Christmas This Year".

Friday evening Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward and Vernon High School Principal Dr. Cynthia Jackson manned the Salvation Army Red Kettle at Walmart. The Red Kettle Campaign is the Salvation Army's major fundraiser of the year. All the money collected stays right here in the community with the local Salvation Army chapter.


Receiving our VES Teacher of the Month honor for November is 3rd grade teacher Kirsten Civitarese and receiving our VES Staff Member of the Month honor is Jovita Fernandez. Congratulations to these ladies!! They always do an outstanding job and go above and beyond for their students.


Members of the VES Student Council went shopping yesterday, selecting gifts for the stars they selected from the Vernon Jaycees' Star Tree, which helps ensure children in need in the community receive something on Christmas morning. The Student Council raised the funds for the shopping spree in November with their annual "Turkey Bowl." VES students donated $3,100 during the fundraiser and the Student Council used that money to purchase gifts for 15 stars from the Star Tree.





All of our VES students have been practicing hard over the last several weeks and are ready to perform their Christmas Programs!! The 4th & 5th Grade Program will be Monday, Dec. 9, while the 2nd & 3rd Grade Program will be Tuesday, Dec. 10. Programs will start at 6:30 p.m., both nights, at the Wilbarger Auditorium.


This fall Vernon ISD started a new program at Vernon Elementary involving fourth grade students. The district provided free swimming lessons to fourth graders who attended after-school tutorials. The goal was to provide students with the opportunity to learn the fun and life-saving skill of swimming, as well as help the students improve in the classroom. We had quite a few students make the trip to Wichita Falls yesterday to participate in the District 7-3A Elementary School UIL Literary Meet that was held at City View Elementary. All of the students did a great job! A story including the results of the meet will be posted early next week. We are very proud of all of our students who took part in the literary meet. They did a great job of representing VES.






Our VES Students of the Week for the week before our Thanksgiving break were:
2nd Grade -- Kamia Rios; 3rd Grade -- Zeva Echols; 4th Grade -- Kaizlynn White; and 5th Grade -- Leah Minor.

With no candidate having the majority of votes in the Nov. 5 election for the unexpired term for Place 3 on the Vernon ISD Board of Trustees, a runoff election between the two candidates receiving the most votes is being conducted. Early voting starts today for the runoff election between Jarrod David and Kyle Echols.
Early voting will be held this week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Forum Room of the Wilbarger Auditorium, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., next Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 9 & 10. Election day for the runoff election is Saturday, Dec. 14.
