Vernon ISD is partnering with Care Solace to provide free mental health services to our students, teachers, staff and community. Self-harm can turn into a dangerous cycle. There are other ways to cope with difficult or painful emotions, and a mental health provider can help you discover them. You can always call CareSolace 24/7/365 at 888-515-0595 for help finding a mental health care provider who truly understands.

March 1 is Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day and we want to give a shout out to our great maintenance crew!!! Earlier this week some of the VES 5th grade students volunteered to pick up trash from the playground after school. The trash had been blown onto the playground by the strong winds. These students and others worked to get all of the trash picked up. Thank you for wanting to help keep your campus pretty and clean!!

Today during their PE Class, our students had the opportunity learn some drumming techniques on the Djembe, an African drum. David Cox, with Rhythm Path, had students follow his lead as they learned about the different notes the drum could make by hitting different areas of the drum head. They also followed David as he led them on different rhythm sequences.

They'll be a whole lot of Dr. Seuss next week, as we are celebrating his birthday with a week of Dr. Seuss fun!! There's an opportunity to dress up every day and show how much we enjoy Dr. Seuss. And, as always, let's take a moment to read every day!!

February is Heart Health Awareness Month and today Wilbarger General Hospital's Kenda Coley, RN, and Gay Lynn Gary, RN, were on the VES campus to present a heart health program to our students. They showed our students how to take their pulse, how much blood is in their body, how the heart is a muscle and how muscles work, and what to eat to be heart healthy. Thank you Kenda and Gay Lynn for the great program and for helping our students learn how to be heart healthy.
