Today is School Librarian Appreciation Day and we want to tell all of our librarians how much you are truly appreciated for all you do for our students. Along with being school librarians, all of you do so much more at your campuses. Thank you!

All eyes were turned to the sky -- with correct protective glasses of course -- this afternoon as students and adults watched the solar eclipse. Luckily, the clouds stayed away and was a perfect day to watch the moon cross in front of the sun.

On Friday students in Mrs. Courtney Jansa's class presented paraprofessional Mrs. Sheryl Rhodes with a card the class made for Paraprofessional Appreciation Day. Each student wrote their own heartfelt message in the card. When Mrs. Rhodes entered their classroom Friday, the students all yelled "Thank you Mrs. Rhodes!," got up and gave her a big hug. Mrs. Jansa said the class also gave Mrs. Rhodes a plant and told her "just like the plant can't survive without the sun, we can't survive without you!"

While work continues on getting the Vernon ISD/Child Care Partners Daycare Center ready to open later this spring, the facility received its first major donation Thursday afternoon. The $10,000 donation was from Atmos Energy and was presented to Child Care Partners Executive Director Keri Goins and Vernon ISD Assistant Principal Blaise Boswell by Atmos representative Pam Hughes-Pak.

Today Vernon Elementary School, Vernon Middle School and Vernon High School each held a student assembly on their campuses. The focus was on bullying, with guest speaker Vance Morris. Mr. Morris is a retired educator who was, himself, bullied in school while he was growing up.

Today is Paraprofessional Appreciation Day! We have paraprofessionals at each campus who help our students and our teachers with hundreds of things, and sometimes it may seem like that help goes unnoticed. But, we notice and appreciate all of you each and every day! Our "paras" play a role in Vernon ISD's success!

The VHS tennis team competed in the Amarillo Relays Tennis Tournament last Thursday and brought home two Top 3 finishes. Kell Castleberry captured the Boys Singles championship, while the doubles team of Christopher Martinez and Matthew Goodrum finished second in Boys Doubles. Great job guys!!! Congrats!!

Here is our cafeteria menu for April.

Tuesday was School Assistant Principals Day and we apologize for being a day late in recognizing our AMAZING assistant principals. Sometimes the duties and responsibilities of being an assistant principal aren't the easiest to handle, but Vernon ISD has assistant principals who handle everything in a professional and calm manner, and who are always focused on what is best for their students. Thank you for all you do at your campus and throughout the district!

Receiving our VES Student of the Week honors for last week were: 2nd Grade -- Averie Bavousett; 3rd Grade -- Raiden Huerta; 4th Grade -- Aiden Hernandez; and 5th Grade -- Jacob Azua. Congratulations!! Great job!!

Last Thursday, students in Ms. Tori Hine's fifth grade class hunted eggs that contained Science STAAR questions. They worked to answer the questions and received candy for their correct responses.
