From Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward: All across the state school districts are witnessing an increase in false school shooting threats from copycats. We need YOUR help to reiterate the severe consequences associated with such actions! #LionPride #consequencesofactions

Next Tuesday, Sept. 24, our Vernon ISD Social Worker Nicole Cameron will be hosting a parent informational meeting on "Vaping Prevention." The presentation will help prepare parents to reach their children and teach them to make healthy decisions regarding vaping. The presentation will begin at 6 p.m., at the Vernon Elementary Cafeteria. It is open to ALL VISD parents, but those with children in the 5th thru 11th grades are highly encouraged to attend, as this is the age group vaping companies target the most.

Remember Vernon Elementary will be hosting an Our Blood Institute Blood Drive tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students who have an adult donate in their name will be eligible to attend a pizza party if the school reaches its units of blood collected goal.

We had visitors this morning for the pep rally, as 2nd and 3rd grade students from Vernon Elementary walked over and joined in the fun.

The district's dress-up day theme for today was "Circus Day" and we had several VES staff members who definitely got into the spirit of things.

The Fine Arts can play a tremendous part in a student's education and Vernon ISD has some of the best Fine Arts teachers around at all levels. Happy National Arts in Education Week!! We appreciate all of you and all you do for our students!

Our Lions took down the Gainesville Leopards last Friday in our 2024 Homecoming game. Check out https://youtu.be/nZT7xeroapA for some of the highlights.

Twenty-three years ago today our world changed forever. We take a moment today to remember and honor those who lost their lives on 9/11. We will never forget. And -- no matter where the attack comes from -- united we stand!!

Third grade students just finished a story entitled "Marisol McDonald Doesn't Match." It is a story about a girl who dresses mismatched and tells how that embodies her uniqueness and her marvelous self. It shows students it is OK to be different and to "just be you." Students in Mrs. Jansas's class found many connections to the story and wanted to dress mismatch to tell themselves that they are each unique in their own way.

Vernon Elementary will be hosting a Blood Drive on Sept. 19. Our Blood Institute provides blood for all of our area hospitals including Wilbarger General. If VES meets their donation goal there will be a pizza party and every student who had someone donate in their name will receive a pizza. Mark your calendars and take a moment to give the gift that costs you nothing, but can save a life!!

We were just informed that Sand Road is closed from Franklin Dr. to Bismarck St. as the City of Vernon works on a water leak. It is expected to be closed for the rest of the day. If you are picking up students at McCord, Vernon Elementary or VHS you may need to change your route.
