All VES students were in the gym this morning listening to campaign speeches from members of the Student Council who were running for Student Council offices. One little sister wanted to make sure her big brother knew she was supporting his candidacy for Student Council President.

Every second and third grade student in Mrs. Sandie Parmer's art classes are represented in this wall art that was hung Thursday afternoon in the front hall of the Vernon Elementary School building. The students were instructed to put a dot in the center of their paper and to paint circles until the whole page was covered in paint. The next week, students cut their papers into fourths and they re-glued the squares together by following an example they were given. After that, Mrs. Parmer glued all the papers onto bulletin board paper. The final size of the project was 15 feet by 9 feet. #Better Together is the saying that has been used in staff communications all year as the Central and Shive campuses were joined to form the new elementary school. Mrs. Parmer said both campuses eagerly anticipated the move into the new school in hopes that everyone would benefit from being under the same roof. Approximately 250 students participated in the project, and the hope is that the fourth and fifth graders will contribute to the wall quilt in the 2nd semester of school. Mrs. Parmer also gave a big "Thank you," to the maintenance guys for hanging the wall paper quilt.

Today is National Stress Awareness Day. All of us have stress in our lives, even children. What we need to do is acknowledge that stress and find ways to defuse it.

We understand fans who use a Waggoner National Bank debit card are having issues purchasing a ticket for tonight's game. Fans who could not purchase a ticket due to using a Waggoner National Bank debit card will be allowed to enter the gate without a ticket. Vernon ISD is operating this under the Honor System, where we are trusting those fans to purchase their ticket once the debit card issue is resolved. The link to purchase tickets for tonight's game will remain open until 9 p.m. Monday. We hope everyone enjoys the game. GO LIONS!!!

Here is Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward's latest message to the community. "I have never had a strong opinion either way of Governor Abbott or members of his office; however, what is currently being proposed in Austin has me thinking differently. There would be a myriad of reasons for Gov. Abbot to call a special session to support public education in Texas, but Gov. Abbott has called a special session to, in my opinion, do great harm to Texas public schools...." To read the full article, please follow this link www.vernonisd.org and scroll down.

The 4th grade average daily attendance is 96.58%!! We appreciate and thank Solvay USA for providing the popsicles. Great job 4th grade!!! Keep it up!!

A new elementary school brings a new tradition, as tomorrow night will be Elementary Night at the Vernon Lions' football game. Elementary School students will get in free to the game and perform a dance routine at halftime. Students participating in the dance routine should wear a maroon or white t-shirt, or a cheerleader uniform. Head out to Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium tomorrow night and show your support to the Lions football team and our elementary students.
