Vernon ISD would like to wish all of our administrative assistants a great day on THEIR day -- National Administrative Professional's Day! VISD would not be able to run effectively and efficiently if it were not for the hard work and dedication of our administrative assistants at all of our campuses and offices.

Today is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day and Vernon ISD has some of the best school bus drivers there is!! They safely transport our students every day throughout the school year. We can't thank them enough for the outstanding job they do for VISD!

We hope all of our students and their families, our teachers and all of our staff have a happy Easter.

Mark your calendar!! We will be sending our 8th grade students off in style with an 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. The event will be held Wednesday, May 21, at the Wilbarger Auditorium. The VMS & VHS PTO will be hosting a reception following the ceremony in the Empire Room.

Vernon ISD will operate under normal school hours on Friday, however school is closed Monday for the Easter Holiday. Students, teachers and staff will return to school Tuesday. We hope everyone has a wonderful Easter.

Our Vernon All-Star Olympics are two weeks away!! We're currently needing a few items -- 6 frisbees and 6 yoga balls. Donations of water and sports drinks (Powerade/Gatorade) are still being accepted. Thank you to all who have already donated items. If you wish to donate, you can bring items to the Vernon Middle School office.

THE BATTLE IS ON!!!
The challenge was laid down and accepted!!
For the last 6 weeks of school Vernon High School and Vernon Middle School are battling it out for attendance supremacy!! The school with the highest attendance rate for the final 6 weeks will receive an ice cream party at the end of the year!!
Pick you're winner!
Who are you backing?
The VHS veterans or the VMS upstarts?

Last night a group of 6th grade students from Middle School gave a presentation on what they have done this year in the Gifted & Talented Program. Yesterday afternoon, members of the Vernon Police Department presented a donation to the Vernon All-Star Olympics to some of our Vernon Middle School All-Star Olympic athletes. The donation comes from the Battle of the Badges charity basketball game that pitted the Vernon Police Department against the Vernon Fire Department. The departments decided to split the money donated during the game evenly, with the Vernon PD giving their portion to our All-Star Olympics. The Vernon All-Star Olympics will be held Wednesday, April 30, at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium.

Today Ms. Mathes' 6th grade Reading/Language Art students enjoyed a game of Quidditch during their class period. The students are reading Harry Potter books and Quidditch is a game from the book. Instead of riding on broomsticks, players used their legs and ran, with the object being to throw the ball through the opponent's hoop. While the game was going on, the "seekers" (1 on each team) searched for the Golden Snitch that was hidden. Finding the Golden Snitch could secure victory for a team, as it was worth 30 points.

Today marks the first day of the last six weeks of school!! Summer is just around the corner and if you're trying to find something that's both fun and educational to keep your children busy, Vernon ISD has several Summer Enrichment Camps to be held June 9-12. For children in the 6th thru 8th grade, we have art, cooking, Lego, photography, creative writing, financial intelligence, and yoga camps. To learn more, go to https://www.vernonisd.org/o/vernon-isd/page/summer-educational-camps

Leading up to last Thursday's VMS Spring Dance, which featured a Luau theme, students and teachers alike took part in a Lei -- Rock, Paper, Scissors contest. Everyone was given a lei to wear earlier in the week, and they could challenge each other to a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors throughout the week, with the winner taking the loser's lei. A prize was given to the student who collected the most leis and winning the contest was Ayden Valderrama. Everyone had a blast at our Luau Spring Dance!!

Our Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting a Passion Workout on Monday, that is open to the public. Dinner will be provided for VMS and VHS students following the workout. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., on Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. Even if you don't want to take part in the workout, come out and enjoy the fellowship.

While delivering some delicious paletes to our amazing teachers and staff yesterday afternoon, two members of the VMS & VHS PTO took the time to stop and visit with one of our students. We greatly appreciate the support our VMS & VHS PTO gives not only to our teachers and staff, but also to our students.

Seventh graders, Bryn Gardner, Khloe Zamora and Kenli Kajs, with the diorama they built for a project in Mrs. Hogue's English class. The seventh graders are reading "The Outsiders" and the project was to build a diorama depicting a scene from the book. Their diorama depicts the church burning scene where Johnny and Ponyboy save the kids who are inside the abandoned church.
