Central students had a blast attending the Pep Rally Friday morning at the high school!
Members of the Central Elementary PTO set up face painting tables at the school Friday to help the students show their Lion Spirit and get ready to attend the VHS Pep Rally.

This Friday is an Early Release Friday for the district. Please note that Vernon High School dismisses classes at 12:10 p.m., however buses will not run at the high school until 12:45 p.m.. This allows those students who have "B" lunch and ride the bus time to eat lunch at school.
Students at both Central and Shive Elementary Schools, which will combine into Vernon Elementary later this semester, will have the opportunity to earn “Lion Bucks” over the course of the school year. “Lion Bucks” are used as a reward when a teacher or school administrator sees a student doing something good.
They’re handed out to students who help with announcements, and a student can receive them for their birthday.
Teachers will give them to students who are showing good behavior habits or who are being extra helpful.
Once a semester, there is a “Lion Bucks Store” where the students can purchase toys, books, etc., with the “Lion Bucks” they have earned that semester.
Friday's pep rally will be held at 9:30 a.m., due to it being an early release Friday. Spirit Friday theme is "Building Our Way Up!!! The Future is Bright!!!" so wear your Neon Colors!! 2nd and 3rd graders will be attending the pep rally this week. The Lions will travel to Gainesville to take on the Leopards for Game 2 of the 2023 season.
Vernon ISD has started using a new program for parents and teachers to have an extra avenue of communication. This program is called Rooms and is hosted by a company named Thrillshare. Some of our parents have already started accessing Rooms but we have a lot of questions regarding the platform. This is totally expected with anything that is new. In his latest community message, Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward reports the Vernon ISD tax cut could save Vernon homeowners hundreds of dollars.
"Each August brings about newfound energy and excitement amongst educators as we get kids back in our buildings. Also occurring every August is the work to set a new budget for the school year and the tax rate that will support that budget. Our CFO, Clay Montgomery has carefully and consistently worked on this over the entire summer and we realized early on that something rare and amazing was about to happen." Our Vernon Lady Lions claimed the championship of the Bronze Division Saturday at the Lu Allen Volleyball Tournament in Graham. They will hit their home court at 6 p.m., tonight for a match against Childress. Vernon Lions Football Head Coach Kevin Sherrill spoke about the 2023 football team and the upcoming season at Friday's Lions Club meeting. Coach Sherrill gave an update on the team after Thursday's scrimmage against Snyder. The Lions open the 2023 season this coming Friday when they travel to Wichita Falls to face the City View Mustangs.
